The fishing here is among the best anywhere in the world. There are not that many offshore sportfishing charters operating out of this area in Panama, therefore over fishing and species depletion has not been a major concern. However as an active member of the IGFA and the Billfish Foundation, we practice catch and release with all billfish.

For those considering a vacation home or retirement destination, Panama is politically stable and the economy here is very strong and continuing to grow. Excellent medical care is readily available in most cities. We were surprised to learn how affordable insurance is in Panama. You can purchase insurance for your home, your health and your boat or car at much lower rates than what is currently being charged in the US.
Panama has almost everything that you are accustom to in the US. There are membership warehouses similar to Costco and Sams Club for shopping. There are american restaurants like McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut and TGI Fridays everywhere. Although, I do prefer the local cuisine to the fast food offerings. Because Panama is a multinational crossroads for many countries, there are many different types of ethnic shops, stores and restaurants too. There are automotive dealerships like Toyota, Ford, Landrover, Nissian, Mitsubishi and several other Chinese automotive models. Building products are readily available and there are many skilled craftsmen and construction tradesman which are reasonably priced. From David Panama the Costa Rician border is only about a forty five minute drive up the Panamanian Highway.
